Apart from the fact that opening your home to the double glazing experts can increase its value, there’s no doubt that it offers you a stylish, energy efficient, low maintenance option.
These days there are two different kinds of double glazing replacement windows to choose from. These are either PVC or Aluminium. Both choices offer great insulation for your home. Tests reveal that almost 25% of heat is lost through house windows and properly fitted double glazing can reduce your heating costs by as much as half.
There’s no doubting that PVC is a good insulator and is usually the cheapest option available on the market. It’s possible to choose frames with coloured or wood grain finishes that need very little maintenance. You’ll never paint again! The only problem might be it is low in what’s known as “structural integrity”. This though, can be overcome with steel re-enforcements.
Aluminium frames are strong and don’t twist. They need practically no maintenance whatsoever, and have about one third of the expansion problems of PVC. Aluminium though is a rather poor insulator, and the whole installation may prove more costly than PVC.
A double glazed home is better prepared to ward off thieves or intruders. They won’t be able to break just one pane of glass, reach through and open the window, as in the days of old! There’s real security to be achieved by the double glass panes and the fact that the windows can be securely locked from the inside. Also, a single pane will shatter easily, often resulting in long, sharp, jagged shards.
There can be no doubt that for style, energy conservation, security, safety and thrift you can’t beat double glazing for your home.
